Ro'o

Ro'o, also known as Lono in Hawaii, is another widely worshipped god throughout Polynesia. He is identified with heavenly manifestations such as clouds, storms, thunder, lightning, and the rainbow.

According to ancient Hawaiian tradition, the god Lono descended from heaven on a rainbow to marry the mortal woman Ka-iki-lani from the Big Island. He ends up murdering her in a jealous rage and after, in her honor, institutes the Makahiki season. It is a time of peace, religious ceremonies, sports/game playing, dancing, and feasting.
