~ Apply perfume, hairspray, and other similar products before putting on your pearl jewelry. These products can be harmful to pearls.

~ After taking your pearls off, wipe them clean with a soft, damp cloth. This will prevent dirt from accumulating and keep perspiration, which is slightly acidic, from eating away at the pearl nacre.

~ Pearls are softer than other gems so when storing them, keep your pearls separate from the harder gems in your jewelry box such as diamonds, which can scratch pearls.

~ Tahitian pearls benefit from being dampened with lightly salted water from time to time. You can also rub a drop of monoi or olive oil on your pearls with a soft cloth so that they maintain their luster and do not dry out.

~ Do not use a toothbrush or any abrasive material on pearls.
